USER MANUAL - SUNSYNK INVERTER TO LBSA SMART BATTERY

PLEASE READ THIS MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE OPERATING AND RETAIN FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

INTRODUCTION

This manual is intended to offer Lithium Batteries South Africa clients with Sunsynk specific guidance when setting up communication between the battery and inverter. For further details pertaining to the setup of the Sunsynk equipment not pertaining directly to the LBSA interface please refer to the various manuals available on the Sunsynk website. Likewise, for further information pertaining to the LBSA batteries, please refer to the LBSA website to download the user manuals (https://lithiumbatteriessa.co.za/) or contact Lithium Batteries South Africa at 010 110 1991.

COMMUNICATION CABLE

The CAN cable used between the LBSA battery and the Sunsynk Inverter is a straight pin to pin cable. Sunsynk inverters are usually sold with this (yellow)cable. The cable will go into the port on the LBSA battery labeled CAN to the port on the Sunsynk inverter labeled BMS 485/ CAN.

Protocol Description
CAN Pin 4 : CAN-H
Pin 5: CAN-L
Pin 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8: NC

BATTERY SETUP WITH COMMUNICATION

To establish communication between the battery(s) and inverter you will need to go to the battery settings. The battery type must be set to Lithium and the Protocol as 0. The capacity (AH) you set on this page is the capacity of your battery or all your batteries in parallel. Set the charge and discharge amps according to the specifications of the battery(s). The inverter will not allow you to set these values higher than the inverter is rated for.

CONFIRMING COMMUNICATION

To confirm communication has been established, go to the LI-BMS page. If the page shows as can be seen below, and the charge and discharge current limits provided add up to the totals of your battery bank, then there is communication. The SOC on this page is the SOC of one battery or the average SOC of all batteries in the bank. The charge current will change when the batteries get close to 100% SOC.

Sunsynk Confirm Communication

If the LI-BMS page shows as below, then communication has not been established. This could be due to a faulty CAN cable or plugging the CAN cable into the front port on the battery or inverter.

Sunsynk Communication Not Established

On the last page of the battery settings, the shutdown, low battery and restart SOC's can be set. It is recommended to set the Shut down to 10%, the Low battery to 15% and the restart on 20%

BATTERY SETUP WITHOUT COMMUNICATION

To set the inverter without communication, first select AGM V. The capacity (AH) you set on this page is the capacity of your battery or all your batteries in parallel. Set the charge and discharge amps according to the specifications of the battery(s). The inverter will not allow you to set these values higher than the inverter is rated for.

Sunsynk Battery Setup Without Communication

On the battery charge page you must insert the voltage values according to the specifications of the battery. For example, 51.2V batteries must be set to 56.2V on all three settings.
