Lithium Batteries South Africa (LBSA) recently participated in a live fire demonstration hosted by Fireblock, where real-world lithium fire suppression capabilities were tested under controlled but intense conditions. Rather than observing from the sidelines, LBSA placed one of its Fireblock Suppression Ready 5.3kWh lithium batteries directly in the high-risk zone to showcase its built-in safety features.
During the test, the battery was driven into thermal runaway, resulting in rapidly escalating temperatures. The conditions replicated a worst-case scenario that every installer and end-user hopes to avoid. Once the thermal event began, Fireblock’s suppression technology was deployed.
Within seconds, the reaction was stopped.
